Choosing a Contractor CommunityA refreshing change in the home remodeling industry: how female leadership makes a difference.
Read moreThere’s a lot to consider when deciding on installing vinyl siding on your home. Most homeowners need to consider if vinyl siding is the right fit for their needs, what color combination to go with, and the hassle of finding a quality vinyl siding contractor to do the work. But what most homeowners overlook are the warranties that are included with vinyl siding and the work done.
There are two types of vinyl siding warranties that you’ll need to consider – vinyl siding warranties and workmanship warranties.
Vinyl Siding Warranties
A vinyl siding warranty is included with the product from the manufacturer. It protects the home against defective or damaged vinyl siding materials. Unfortunately, not all vinyl siding is created equal and neither are the warranties.
For most siding manufacturers, a fifty year warranty is standard. Some products even carry a lifetime warranty. You can usually tell the quality of the vinyl siding, and how weather resistant it is, by how long the warranty is offered for.
Each warranty is different, so it’s important to know what’s included, not just how long the warranty lasts for. Other factors to look out for include if the warranty is prorated – the longer the siding lasts, the less the manufacturer will pay, if the warranty can be transferred to new owners should you happen to sell your home, or if damaged siding will be replaced or simply recoated.
Others include stipulations if the siding is painted or altered in any way.
In addition, most vinyl siding warranties cover the product but not the actual labor. This is why you should carefully look over the fine print for the manufacturers warranty information.
Workmanship Warranties
The contractor or company who installs the product provides the workmanship warranty to guarantee the quality of their work. A Workmanship warranty covers the work and labor performed by the vinyl siding contractor. Although workmanship warranties are fairly standard, not all contractors offer them.
Work with a true vinyl siding craftsman who stands by their work and offers a substantial workmanship warranty. Each contractor has different clauses that are included; always discuss what’s included with both the manufacturer and workmanship warranties.
Having long-term manufacturer and workmanship warranties for your vinyl siding will give you peace of mind, about your home, for the future.
